Portable Listening With Radio Headphones

Radio headphones are very lightweight and very useful when you want to go for a walk but still not miss a radio program that you really wanted to listen to.

At one time transistor radios were all the rage, but these were replaced by listening devices that could place tapes and later CDs. They were called Walkmans and they revolutionized the listening world.

People no longer had to worry about disturbing others because when they wore a headphone attached to the radio or player, they were the only ones that could hear the sounds.

Walkman headphones do not give a clear musical sound when you are listening to your music through them. This is because there are several types of headsets that you can use, such as:

  • In ear
  • Closed ear
  • In ear

Types of Headsets

The open ear headphones tend to leak air so the quality of sound is not as good as with the closed ear. These headphones have a pad that fits over the ear and transmits the sound to the ear. The in ear headphones have a small piece that fits into the ear.

Some people think that the in ear headsets are more dangerous and can result in hearing loss more frequently than the other two types because the sound is directly into the ear and this is not a natural way of listening to anything.

Balanced sound

Because headphones limit the listening to one pair of ears, the bass is not as dramatic as if the headphones were not used at all.

The lightweight headphones that come with portable players have a more anemic bass than other headphones. When lightweight headphones have transducers too small to reproduce low bass, a boost in the midbass response can help to create the illusion of deep bass and thus a more balanced sound.
