Noise Reduction Headsets Infrared Headphones

How Infrared Headphones Work

Infrared headphones use infrared light to carry transmissions from the transmitter to the receiver.

Even though it is a simple theory, it is actually quite complicated.

The human ear is not able to interpret messages transmitted through an infrared beam. The headphones translate these beams into sound waves that the ear can understand.

IR headphones are wireless where the electrical signal is changed into data that can be expressed through an infrared light.

Noise reduction headphones can also work with infrared light and are really good at cancelling out any noises around you.

This means you can hear whatever you need through the headphones without having to turn the volume way up or having to ask the person you are speaking with to repeat himself/herself.

These headphones are the ones that pilots and people working in noisy environments use to protect themselves from the noise of the workplace. They are equipped with microphones so that you can speak to another person without interference.

Types of headphones

In addition to wireless there are other different types of headphones on the market. These include:

  • Dynamic headphones. These are the most common headphones and are available in many sizes from foldable, portable models to ones used in schools and studios.
  • Electrostatic headphones are thin, but they can let you hear your favorite music with great detail.

Noise Reducing Headphones

There are two types of noise reducing headphones that you can use:

  • Passive noise reducing headphones. These headphones are closed over the ears and are designed to close out all the surrounding noises. Although they are usually heavy, they are quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
  • Spatial Simulation headphones. This type of headphones come in three varieties:
  • Crossfeed headphones with the earpiece slightly off the ear
  • In front localization where the sound appears to be in front of the person's head
  • Surround sound headphones with 4 channels
