Where Children′s Headphones are Used

It is very common to see children′s headphones in any classroom.

The teacher groups the children together in centers and one of these centers usually deals with listening. The children wear the headphones to listen to a story from a tape. They work at their activity, while the other children work at other things.

The voice on the tape can only be heard by the children wearing the headsets and does not interfere with the operation of the classroom.

This also frees the teacher to work with other children and he/she does not have to read the material out loud to one group. The material for listening usually varies from group to group depending on the ability level of the children.

Protection and Reasonable

The common type of headphones a child uses in school blocks out all other sounds. These headsets are bulky and have the full ear covered.

The typical headsets that children use for listening to music or for playing video games are either the in the ear, on the ear or over the ear versions. It is not recommended to use in the ear headphones for children because they usually share their headsets and it is not very healthy to use them in this manner. On the ear headsets are the most common because they have pads that protect the ear and are not very expensive.

When parents want to purchase headsets for their children to cut down on the noise level in the house, there are certain things that they should consider:

  • They need to have a small carrying case to protect the headphones from damage. If they come with a compact CD player, this is usually included.
  • Some headsets come with an acoustic reflector that improves the clarity of the sound. If you don′t want you child to have the sound turned up loud to cut out all the static noises, then this would be a great option to consider.
  • You also have to look at the length of the cord. If the child is just going to use the headset with a compact CD player that fits in the pocket, then you don′t need to be concerned about the length. If however, you want a headset for use when playing a video game, you need to make sure the cord is long enough to reach from the TV or computer to where the child is seated.
