How An Active Noise Reduction Headphone Works.
Modern technology has made the active noise reduction headphone an affordable option for the general public.
The theory behind the technology of noise reduction dates back to the 1930′s, but the technology of active noise control only became mainstream with the development of the personal computer. Using the physics of sound waves, technologists have figured out a way of bouncing opposing noises off one another and therefore cancelling them out. In order to do this, though, super fast processors are needed.
Peace and QuietThe best headphones to use to reduce noise are those that reduce background noise by at least 30 decibels. You will often see these headphones in airports where there are many people talking and announcements being made about flight information. If you just want to have some peace and quiet, listen to music, or get some work done, and you are in an environment where there is a lot of noise, these headphones will block out all the noises around you.
How does it work?Headphones that control noise have tiny microphones in them that listen to incoming high pressure sound waves. A fast amplifier in the headphones creates an opposite low-pressure wave and the waves cancel each other out. This type of headphone is used extensively in the aviation industry, especially by pilots. For pilots these headphones reduce the noise of the propellers and engine, but still allow them to hear voices and alarms.
Purchase the Right Level of Noise ReductionYou must not confuse the headphones that reduce active noise with those designed for passive noise. Active noise headphones reduce the noise, whereas passive headphones block the noises completely, at a shooting rage for example. Standard headphones usually do not reduce any noise, so you do have to be careful about what you purchase. You have to make sure that the headphones have the noise reduction at the level you need.
